Grow Your Own: Fruit Tree Pruning and Maintenance

03/23/2024 01:30 PM - 03:30 PM ET

Description

Please join us at the community orchard, behind the granite shed, at Atkins Field in Hardwick on Saturday March 23 from 1:30-3:30pm to learn about fruit tree pruning and maintenance with Zach Leonard of High Hopes Orchard in Westfield. Zach is a Vermont Certified Horticulturist and has 20 years of experience planting, pruning, and maintaining orchards (both his own and others around the state.) He is passionate about growing fruit ecologically and believes that high quality fruit and nuts can and should be grown in every yard, farmstead, and community space without the use of toxic chemicals. The afternoon will include a tour of the community orchard, a pruning demonstration, discussion of tree maintenance, including challenges, diseases and more. There will be an open Q&A session. Please come prepared to engage and ask questions - we look forward to seeing you there! Zach's website is for background on Zach and some lovely photos.  http://www.highhopesorchards.com/about-us.html This workshop is open to all (including kids) but we ask that you pre-register by March 21 as space is limited. Snow (or tother really bad weather) date is March 30.

Grow Your Own is a project of the Hardwick Area Food Pantry and the Center for an Agricultural Economy.
