Grow Your Own: dehydrating (solar and otherwise)

07/27/2024 01:30 PM - 03:30 PM ET

Please join us at the Atkins Field Pavilion on July 27. Carol Fairbank of Broadfork Farm in Greensboro will lead a workshop in dehydrating foods as a method of preserving them, with taste tests.

There are more ways to preserve the harvest than canning and freezing! If you haven’t tried your hand at dehydrating food, we welcome you to come learn how. Humans have been drying food for generations without any fancy equipment or even kitchen space. In this workshop, we’ll explore a variety of ways to dry foods with or without a dehydrator, including tips and tricks to get the best results for fruits, vegetables, meats, and more. Participants will enjoy a tasting of a variety of dehydrated foods, and will have the opportunity to make a simple solar dehydrator to take home.

Please pre-register by July 24 as space is limited. As always with Grow Your Own workshops, there will be time for sharing your own ideas, successes, and challenges, and questions and just in general camaraderie among those of us who love to cook and garden and preserve! Grow Your Own is a project of the Hardwick Area Food Pantry and the Center for an Agricultural Economy. The mission of Grow Your Own is to increase community food independence and wellbeing through shared skills, knowledge and experience. Workshops are always free. Donations are gratefully accepted online when you register. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Bethany at:
